What is City Compost?

Urban Waste Reimagined
as Garden Nutrition

City Compost is produced by collecting and scientifically composting organic waste generated in urban areas — including household kitchen scraps, food processing waste, vegetable market waste, and garden trimmings.

This waste is processed through controlled composting facilities that break it down into a stable, nutrient-rich, dark compost — turning what would have gone to landfill into a powerful soil amendment.

Application Guide

How to Use City Compost

Versatile and easy to apply — in pots, beds, or directly on lawns.

1

Measure

Use 100–200g per medium pot or 200–300g per sq. metre in garden beds and raised beds.

2

Mix into Soil

Work evenly into the top 8–10 cm of soil. Can also be used as a surface mulch around plants at 1–2 cm depth.

3

Water & Watch

Water in well to activate the microbes and begin nutrient release. Results visible in 2–3 weeks with regular use.

💡 Pro Tip: City compost works brilliantly as a base layer when filling new raised beds — mix it 1:1 with our Biya Organics Cocopeat for a lightweight, fertile raised bed medium that drains well and feeds plants all season.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes — our city compost is tested for pathogens and heavy metals before packaging. It meets quality standards for use on edible crops including vegetables, fruits, and herbs. The composting process destroys pathogens through sustained high temperatures.
Vermicompost is made by earthworms and is extremely rich in microbes and humic acids. City compost is made by thermophilic (heat-based) composting of urban organic waste — it has a broader nutrient profile from diverse inputs and a higher humus content, but fewer live microbes per gram. Both are excellent soil amendments that complement each other well.
Mature, well-composted city compost has a mild, pleasant earthy smell — similar to forest soil. It does not have an unpleasant odour. If it smells strongly, that indicates under-composted material — ours is fully matured before packing.
City compost is excellent for raised beds. Mix it 1:1 with Biya Organics Cocopeat when filling new raised beds for a perfectly balanced, lightweight, and fertile growing medium. For existing beds, top dress with 200–300g per sq. metre every 4–6 weeks.
City compost is unique because it is made from diverse organic inputs — giving it a broader spectrum of nutrients and microbes than single-source composts. It also has a positive environmental impact: every purchase diverts urban organic waste from landfills and reduces greenhouse gas emissions. Good for your garden and good for the city.
